U.P Government Apathy Towards Liquor Consumers

Ten people were killed after drinking illegal country liquor in Barabanki. People who died and the people who are undergoing treatment in the hospital purchased liquor from the Government liquor shop. The owner of this shop has been notorious for selling illegal country liquor. Liquor is the only product that is sold at a price, more than three times the cost of production due to the government tax.

Liquor Shops in Purvanchal Exploiting Consumers

Not only in U.P, liquor consumers are the biggest taxpayers in the whole country? The highest tax is deposited in the treasury of the government is from the pocket of liquor consumers and the worst is that the government is most carefree towards them. Liquor consumers frequently loose their lives due to spurious liquor and the government does nothing. This year, UP Government has set an income target of excise department to near about Rs 29,302 crore. That is, people who purchase liquor from license shops will give this much of tax to the UP government in a year. Even after the death of the people, due to liquor purchased from these licensed shops, the government will not take any action despite recovering the tax from it. Just three months ago, 114 people have died of illicit poisonous liquor in UP and Uttarakhand, despite such a large number deaths, the government could not ensure that such incidents do not happen again. Otherwise incident like Barabanki would not have happened.

Raw Liquor Being Delivered Through Phone Call

Remember that about three months ago in February this year, 114 people died in four districts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand due to poisonous liquor. After that the election notification was issued. The news was constantly being published even during the elections that illegal country liquor was being made on a large scale, apart from its movement, news of the sale of illegal country liquor from government stores published on daily basis but the government did not take any action, the result was, as the notification ended within 24 hours, 10 people died due to illegal liquor. Unconfirmed sources said the number of those who died were 12. According to DM Barabanki the number of people who died could increase.

The government’s apathy towards the highest tax-paying consumers reveals its insensitivity. A beer that sells around 190 rupees in the market, its actual value is 65 rupees, rest consumer gives in the form of tax. Government of Uttar Pradesh gets more than Rs 252 rupees as taxes on domestic liquor of 375 rupees. Even after so much of tax recovery, the government is insensitive towards liquor consumers.

The people who died, bought liquor from the government liquor shop. It is clear that the illegal liquor is being sold from government stores. This type of news was published during the elections. It also came to the news that illegal liquor sales were being made from government stores due to the weaknesses in the new excise policy of the UP government. But the government did not paid any attention in this direction.
