In U.P , special funds created for the protection of cows and stray animals, have filled up the coffers of the U.P Government. According to the excise department data, from Lucknow alone 98 crore rupees have been received in two months.
Few months back, the UP government had especially established a fund for the protection of cow and other stray animals. According to the instructions of the government, the amount that will be earned by imposing 0.5 cess on the sales of liquor, will be deposited in this fund. From this fund, in each district of U.P, a shelter home along with a pasture will be built for the cows and stray animals.The Government, for the arrangement of fodder and other types of arrangements in these shelter homes, decided to impose cess on the sale of liquor.

For the year 2019-20 the U.P government had set the revenue target of Rs.33000 crores, and 0.5 percent of this total amount is 165 crore rupees. According to the excise department data, this cess is being levied as special tax . Dr. Jogendra Singh, joint director excise department, in conversation with cheerrss.com, said that no cow cess is being taken, the cess is being charged as special fees. How much revenue has been earned in two months, on this he said that he will be able to give the figures after some time.
Recently, the UP government have approved new rules for micro breweries in restaurants and hotels. If the revenues from this are also added, then this special tax is estimated to be around Rs.200 crore.
