The after effect of Congress’s recent elections defeat is that the first time in UP, the issue of hooch deaths has started taking a political shape. Previously it has never been an issue, it is probably the first time that any political party has reached the doorstep of the relatives to meet them. Under the leadership of Congress Legislature Party leader Ajay Kumar and Congress candidate from Barabanki Lok Sabha constituency Tanuj Punia, Congress leaders met the families of those who died in Ramnagar and shared their grief and accused the UP government of neglecting them.
Congress Legislature Party leader Ajay Kumar said that during the tenure of the present government, 143 people have died of illicit poisonous liquor, but the government is not paying attention towards this problem. He also sought the Chief Minister’s resignation on this matter. The leaders said that the illegal liquor business is going on under government protection. From this scandal, everything has come out in open, that even after consuming liquor from the government shop these people died. State Congress spokesman Tanuj Punia also demanded compensation of Rs 20 lakh each to the relatives of the people who died.

These leaders also said that this matter will be raised in the House. Earlier, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav also directly blamed the government in this case. He said that people are dying after consuming liquor from the government-owned shops. It means that the government is involved in it. He demanded a high level inquiry of the matter.
This is the first time that the Congress and the SP have consoled them by meeting the families of those who died in the liquor tragedy. So far parties like BJP, RLD, BSP have remain silent on this scandal. No party wants to say anything on the death of these people. It is noteworthy that whether it is UP Government or the Central Government, unnatural death or death due to road accidents, is compensated, but they remain quiet in these types of cases. In the Barabanki case, they purchased liquor from the government licensed shop and died. In spite of this, the government has paid only Rs 2 lakh each to the family members of this liquor tragedy. But the Congress delegation, which has shown the courage to meet the kith and kin this time, has shown the way, that justice to the innocent consumers who die of illegal liquor will open done.
