Market Price Rs.75 Sold @ Rs.40

About two dozen people have died, from the spurious liquor sold by the government contract shop of Raniganj in Barabanki. Near the same shop is an English liquor shop. Both these shops are famous for selling liquor at prices lower than the market .

Contractor of both the shop is the same person accused in hooch tragedy, both of these shops were selling liquor at throw away prices because water was being mixed with liquor. The price of a quarter is rupees 75 but it was being sold for mere 40 rupees. Along with the water, instead of Ethyl, Methyl was being mixed in English liquor to maintain its intensity . Not only this, sometimes the mixture of ‘Rab’ and jaggery was also mixed .

Sources reveal that the owners of both the shop are same and they take contracts on others name. Liquor was served openly at makeshift place adjacent to the shop. On Monday, when people started dying, these people threw there raw material and instruments one kilometer away from the shop. The goods were recovered by the villagers and it included empty bottles of Country and English liquor along with syringes and chemical bottles.

It is clear from the recovered material that adulteration of both English as well as Country liquor was done by these people.. That’s why they used to sell it at cheaper prices. The local police were also involved in this game. According to sources, some people gave information to the police about the sale of cheap liquor, but no action was taken and when the people were thinking of going to Lucknow in this regard this tragic incident happened ,which changed the fate of Raniganj.
