On one hand, while the UP Government is establishing new records in revenue earning from liquor, but on the other hand, the government is running Prohibition department just for the name sake. While all the departments of the UP are continuously progressing, the state’s prominent prohibition department is some what like a parasite. Excise Department is earning revenue of more than 25 thousand crores every year by selling liquor. In such a situation, why will the excise department want to invite losses.The Prohibition department should be somewhat autonomous in functioning but the fact is it is totally dependent on the excise department.
Sports competitions and seminars are being organized in educational institutes and rural areas through various programs to bring awareness about the adverse effects of intoxication and narcotics through the Prohibition Department. To get rid of intoxication efforts are being made to bring awareness among the people through Prabhatpheri, Wall Paintings and information on Hoardings.
Driven by the social institutions, the Center for Anti-Narcotics, which is aided by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, who induce people for treatment, suffering from intoxicants, while the prohibition department runs only on government data. The department has never ever organised any kind of awareness program in any school, college or rural areas.

People say, when the seller is itself responsible for the abolition of intoxication, it is not possible that it will make the society aware about curbing the sale of liquor. The liquor prohibition department, for the campaign in the year 2016-17 was provided budget of 28 lakhs, 83 thousand and some what same in 2017-18 . This budget is like a drop in the ocean.The government needs to take strong steps towards eradicating intoxication.
