U.P Government Wakes Up After Barabanki Tragedy

Since the beginning of the year 2019, there have been many such incidents in UP, in which many people lost their lives due to illegal liquor, after the death of hundreds of people in Saharanpur, Kushinagar and recently in Barabanki, the UP government has decided to take strict measures against the people linked to illegal liquor trade.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a review meeting of Excise Department on Wednesday. The Chief Minister looked sterner on illegal liquor. He told the officers that the incident like Barabanki should not happen again and directed the officials to find out the full details of who are doing this, and for how long they have being doing this, and if there is any political relation or protection being given to the people involved in it, it should also be thoroughly investigated. CM said that also see whether this is being done only for profit or their intentions are to defame the government and spread disorder.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed that local administration, police and excise departments should co-ordinate and campaign against those who destroy the lives of people by doing illegal liquor business. If needed, then seize their properties and impose NSA and send them to jail. Every liquor shop should be checked, making the police station of that area accountable where illegal liquor is being made.

PSO machine at every liquor store
The Chief Minister said that it should be ensured that liquor shops do not open in public places like temple, mosque, church, gurdwara, school, hospital and populated area. The Excise Department should inspect and ensure that compliance of fixed distance standards is being followed or not.

He said that proper utilization of technology should be done in order to strengthen the system of excise department. POS machines should be installed at every liquor shop as soon as possible. The matter of installing POS machine has been going on for a long time but it is still not clear from when it will be applicable. The review meeting was attended by Excise Minister Jay Pratap Singh, Chief Secretary Anup Chandra Pandey, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister SP Goyal, Principal Secretary Excise Kalpana Awasthi, and Additional Chief Secretary Avnish Awasthi.
