Pre-Poll Night Bonanza

Preparations for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections have been completed,and the publicity campaign has ended. The night before the polling day is considered to be the worst. If you believe in the news reports during the last elections, this is the night when liquor is distributed openly, especially to the rural voters.The fate of polling is decided on the same night.

In the first phase, polling for the eight Lok Sabha seats in western UP will be on Thursday. Similarly, for the second phase, polling will be on April 18. The second phase also has eight Lok Sabha seats. In the second phase, the last day of campaigning will be April 16. It means, in the first phase, on the night of April 10 and in the second phase, on the night of April 15, it can be called the night of wine distribution.

However, this time the Election Commission is very strict in this matter. The police is doing strict checking and for this purpose check points have been made on the borders of each constituency. Especially in order to prevent the movement of liquor, very strict arrangement are in place. Nearly every suspicious vehicle is being checked . A lot of liquor has been caught in Saharanpur and Ghaziabad, on account of first phase of elections.

In Uttar Pradesh’s capital, Lucknow, 65 boxes of English liquor smuggled from Haryana were caught. On the complaint of liquor being illegaly sold in Nigohan, Excise team raided a shop and recovered 791 illegal English liquor bottles. One person was arrested and sent to jail. In Lucknow itself, Hazratganj Police has seized dozen boxes of beer, 2160 illegal beer bottles have ben recovered.

During checking near Shahjahanpur check point in Sarsawa police station area of Saharanpur district, police arrested two people while recovered 908 boxes of English liquor of about Rs 54 lakh. Similar reports are there of illegal liquor being caught in Ghaziabad, Noida and Muzaffarnagar .
