Precise results can not be found through old Measures
The department regularly receive complaints regarding decrease in alcohol intensity and water mixing. On these complaints, the departmental officers check the intensity, by taking sample of liquor from shop or distillery. To measure it, alcohol meter,
temperature meter and beaker or glass flask is used till date. It is believed that through these old measures, the results are not accurate. UP government’s revenue is determined by the intensity of the alcohol , therefore, it is only after checking the intensity of alcohol, that the permission for bottling is granted.
Distilleries had opposed it
Every year in January the standardization of alcohol and temperature meters is done in the central laboratory located at Prayagraj . The UP Distellers association and Distelleries have objected to the parameters regarding standardization. On the orders of the Excise Commisioner , the standardization of some distelleries was done again in Shri Ram House Laboratory located in Delhi. The Department is going to buy digital alcoholometer only to eliminate the dispute that comes from manual standardization.
