Interest of Liquor Traders Diminishing

Due to the changes in the excise policy, the interest among traders to acquire license for liquor and beer shops, is not such as it was seen earlier. The claim of the UP government is to gain record revenue, but the attitude of the traders towards the renewal process is showing a bleak picture. Monday was the last day for the renewal of the licenses and it is worth looking that only , 70 percent for country liquor shops, 60 percent for English liquor shops, 50 percent for beer shops and only 40 percent of the licensee for model shops made online application. Out of the 162 beer shops operating in Lucknow, only 85 licensees applied for renewal. The remaining 77 beer licensees kept away from operating shops in 2019-20. Of the 51 model shop licenses in the district, only 20 businessmen applied for the renewal. Now the rest of the shops will be administered by Excise Department through e lottery.  The licenses of the shops whose renewal applications have not been received will be valid till March 31, 2019. Whereas, the shops which have not received renewal applications, will be renewed through e-lottery on laid terms and condition.
