Gujarat Asks Center To Compensate Liquor Ban

The Gujarat government has asked the Center to compensate the loss of about 15000 crore annually, which occurs due to the prohibition of liquor sales in the state. According to the report of Dainik Bhaskar, Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel has demanded from center to compensate the losses of about 15 thousand crore, due to non-receipt of revenue including excise and VAT, on liquor.

Liquor Earning In U.P Growing Day by Day

Deputy Chief Minister Patel raised this issue, in a meeting convened by the Finance Ministry before the budget. This meeting was called by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman and Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur. Nitin Patel said that the states which are equivalent to Gujarat, they get revenues of 12 to 15 thousand crore rupees in taxes, including excise-VAT from liquor sale, but Gujarat is deprived of it because of liquor ban.The Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat said that in order to make the purpose of article 47 of the Constitution meaningful, Gujarat accepted and implemented the system of prohibition, but the damage to the state due to this should be compensated by the Central Government.
