The number of those who die from liquor is increasing day by day, but the number of people who drink liquor is also increasing at a rapid pace. The number of people drinking in China and India is increasing rapidly. So far few European countries and Russia were at the forefront in the list of liquor consuming nations.

Every year in the whole world approximately 33 lakh people die due to liquor. AIDS, TB and violence also not responsible for such large number of deaths as much as liquor is, around the world, one death in every 20 deaths occurs due to liquor. Experts say that this number may also increase. Liquor deaths also include drunken driving cases.

Shekhar Saxena of the World Health Organization WHO of the United Nations says that in every 10 seconds, a person dies due to liquor. According to the statistics, 33 lakh people became victim of liquor in 2012. About 6 percent of all deaths worldwide is due to liquor. Oleg Chestnov, working in WHO, says that there is need to save people from the ill effects of liquor. Liquor leads to deterioration in health and more than 200 health-related problems are caused by liquor. These include serious diseases like cancer with liver cirrhosis. The new discovery suggests that the risk of pneumonia, AIDS and TB also increases with liquor as more liquor consumption decreases the body’s immune system.

According to WHO liquor is now becoming popular in countries where traditionally liquor was considered as bad. India and China are prominent among such countries. People from these countries have started buying liquor because they have more money. The organization says that in China one person will drink 1.5 liters of pure alcohol in one year by 2025.

But still liquorers are found the most in Russia and Eastern Europe. According to 2010 statistics, an average of 32 liters of liquor per person is consumed in Russia and then comes Canada, America, Australia and South Africa. If the whole world is taken into consideration, then everyone aged above 15 years consumes 6.2 liters of liquor a year.

But despite these perplexing figures, there are countries in the world where people have never consumed liquor. Some of them are people of Islamic country where liquor is forbidden. In low-income countries, liquor is also consumed less because there are fewer means of living there.
