Liquor Shops Defiant Of Prescribed Norms

In UP, liquor shops are auctioned in every district and orders are for sale of liquor as per the prescribed standard. This has always been the case. But for the last two three years this system has gone messy. According to the liquor businessmen, the main reason for this is the new Excise Policy. According to them, there is an emphasis on increasing only revenue in the new liquor policy, which has led to many discrepancies.

Even Javed Akhtar Failed to Resist the Glamour Of Liquor

The result of this is that, for the last two or three years, in almost every district other than licensed liquor shops, domestic, English and beer shops are being operated in wood and in tin sheds. After the Barabanki hooch tragedy, 40 shops were found alone in Barabanki district which were not being operated on prescribed norms. On this, the Barabanki District Administration issued the orders that within two days the licence of the shops will be cancelled if they do adhere to the prescribed norms. Despite this, a lot of shops continue to operate in in the same manner as before.

Barabanki District Administration has launched an awareness campaign in this regard. Check points for availability essential facilities and parameters for liquor shops were also told during the campaign. DM said that in all Tehsil Headquarters Excise Inspectors have been deployed. In this regard, DM Barabanki had instructed that all country liquor, beer and English liquor shops within 8 kilometer radius of the tehsil headquarters should be checked at least twice a month and the remote shops should be checked once in a month. But there is doubt that this will improve the situation, because this is not only happening in Barabanki, but in the rest of the state liquor is being sold in similar fashion and the DM of all the districts have issued such directions.

Israel Gifted Liquor and Beer to the World

The most surprising situation in this regard is of the Excise Commissioner’s Office. The Excise Commissioner himself should have given the orders in this regard, but there is no sense of commitment, loyalty and work responsibilities. Sources say that if the Excise Commissioner acts strictly and sensitively then such incidents will not happen.
