Liquor Scenes In Movies Adversely Affects Children

Whether it is Hollywood or Bollywood, when the hero is sipping wine in the movies, he is unaware of, how many millions of people watching him are influenced with his scene, especially the children. Teenager are the ones who are first attracted to liquor when they see their hero drinking. In a study in the United States, it has been claimed that in adolescence, children are more attracted to liquor drinking scene in the films.This study says it does not matter much even if their parents are alcoholic, but watching liquor scenes in the movies certainly affects them.

Study Group says that in this research utmost care and sensitivity was observed. 6500 children of 10 to 14 years were interviewed on the telephone and within two years they were interviewed three times at different hours. They were asked if they see big movies and whether they see scenes related to liquor. They were also asked whether they had tasted liquor, and what are the things,they pay attention to in school.

The 50 films that were named in these interviews were selected randomly from the list of 500 films. Apart from these, 32 other films were also part of the interview, who did a good business. After this, the researchers closely watched the duration of liquor scenes in the films and how much liquor does the actor drank.

The result of the research came out that teenagers looked at these scenes for at least four and a half hours, some of them watched for more than eight hours of such scenes in which liquor was being mentioned. The research, which lasted for two years, showed that the percentage of liquorers increased from 11 per cent to 25 per cent. Those who started drinking liquor just to taste it, they started consuming three times more.

Liquor scene in the movies are considered the third biggest threat in the process of making someone liquorer, whereas fourth in the process of making someone drunkard. Research has said that if someone’s parents are alcoholic or someone has a lot of money in the form of pocket money, even then they are not likely to become a liquorer, but in the case of the movies it is just opposite. Research reports said that children who had watched liquor scenes, they started drinking liquor twice the number as compared to other children. 63% of them became drunkard.

Research reports say that the promotion of liquor in the films is done on good scenes, there is no harm in it, and mostly the liquor company appear, which adversely affects adolescent children. This research has been published in BMJ Open Magazine. This research was conducted under the leadership of James Sergeant, teaching at Dartmouth Medical School, New Hampshire University. He has asked the health agencies to express concern over it .
