Seven more people succumbed to poisonous liquor of government contract shop in Barabanki on Wednesday. The number of people who died in the incident has increased to 23. Severely ill 10 people have been admitted to the Trauma Center. On the other hand, Barabanki’s suspended Excise Inspector Ram Tirath Maurya and contractor Danvir Singh and his associate Pappu Jaiswal have been arrested by the police. In February this year, poisonous liquor in Saharanpur and adjoining areas killed nearly 114 people.
Liquor Shops in Purvanchal Exploiting Consumers
The Excise Minister of UP told that four officers of the district administration and 8 policemen have been suspended with immediate effect. These include District Excise Officer, Excise Inspector, 3 Head Constables and 5 constables. DGP has suspended Inspector Ramnagar Rajesh Kumar Singh and CO Pawan Gautam.
Raw Liquor Being Delivered Through Phone Call
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep condolences for those who died and announced 2 Lakh Rupees each for the victims family. He ordered DM and SP to reach the spot and provide medical facilities. Yogi has said that strict action should be taken against the guilty.
Fake Liquor Factory in the Village
Four of the dead were members of the same family. Three brothers Ramesh Gautam, Mukesh, Sonu and his father Chhota Lal were killed. Ramesh’s wife, Ramavati, told that there is no one left to give shoulder to the dead bodies. The villagers have alleged that Danvir Singh is running illegal factory to make fake liquor. This fake liquor is sold at its official liquor shop.
In February, 112 people died from poisonous liquor
In February this year, 112 people died due to spurious liquor in four districts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. According to the health department, the maximum number of 55 deaths occurred in Saharanpur in April. 18 in Meerut, 10 in Kushinagar and 32 in Roorkee in Uttarakhand.
150 killed in Assam
In February, in Assam, 150 people died due to poisonous liquor. In Golaghat district, 85 people died and 58 died in Jorhat district. It was said to be the biggest incident of poisonous liquor in the state. ADG Mukesh Agrawal had said that 10 people were arrested for selling and production of illegal liquor known as ‘Sulai Mod’ in Assamese.
