Liquor Shops in Purvanchal Exploiting Consumers

The UP government make a million claims that there is a rule of law in the state, but the fact is that the arbitrariness continues. Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Mau, Ballia, and in whole of eastern U.P liquor shops are being opened before time and no one is there to stop them. The Government has passed the order to open the state-run domestic and foreign liquor and beer shops in the state after 12 o’clock, and these shops have to be closed at ten o’clock in the night.

U.P Trending In Liquor Consumption

Whether this Government order is being followed in other places of the state or not, this can not be said, but this order is certainly not being followed anywhere in the Purvanchal. For example, the railway station turn of Azamgarh district headquarters can be mentioned. Located right on the Azamgarh Varanasi main highway, this shop opens before 10 o’clock in the morning and is open even after ten o’clock in the night. When this is the situation of the liquor shop of the district headquarters, then what will be the status of the liquor shops in the villages it can be imagined.

In the same way, the order is not of any significance for the government-run liquor shop, which runs on the tuntun turn of the Mubarakpur police station, in Azamgarh district. Here fetch out 5 to 15 rupees more and liquor is available anytime in the morning, while this liquor shop is situated at a distance of only one step away from Mubarakpur Police Station. It can be said, that the deadline does not apply to most liquor shops in the Purvanchal. It is not that the liquor shop contractors are doing this arbitrarily. This nexus is being run in collusion with Police, Excise Department and District Administration. Similar, examples of Ballia, Mau, Jaunpur can also be given.

In Purvanchal, shops are not only being opened before time, the country liquor quarter is also available in two prices. The one with a low degree of liquor is worth 45 rupees and with higher degree is of 65 rupees. If it is purchased during given official time then, 5 rupees extra are charged on every quarter of country liquor purchased, but if purchased after closing time then 15 rupees extra are charged for every quarter of country liquor.

At the same time, the shopkeeper gives vial to the adjacent tea seller as per the requirement, and early morning they start selling liquor by charging 15 rupees extra, and the extra income is distributed equally among tea seller and the shopkeeper. The tea seller is also benefited by this. It is said that the excise department take away half of this extra income. Thus public is being openly exploited in collusion with Excise Department.
