India has overtaken super power America and China in terms of consuming liquor. In any other field we can get ahead or not, but at least in the field of liquor consumption, we have surpassed the world’s two most powerful countries. The consumption of liquor has increased by 38 percent in India in the last seven years i.e. 2010 to 2017.

This is claimed in a study by German magazine ‘The Lancet’. In this study, liquor consumption in 189 countries was studied, between 1990-2017. TU Dresden researchers in Germany reported that between 2010 and 2017, the consumption of liquor in India increased by 38 percent, and this volume was 4.3 to 5.9 liters per adult (person) per year. During this period, there was a slight increase in consumption of liquor in the US (9.3 to 9.8 liters) and in China (7.1 to 7.4 liters).

This study also shows that the consumption of liquor in the world is increasing rapidly. In the last two and a half decades since 1990, globally, the total consumption of liquor has registered an increase of 70%. According to the projection report of the same study, going by the same trend, half of the world population will be consuming liquor by the year 2030.The conclusion is that in the case of liquor consumption the world is not moving in the right direction.

According to this study, if the rate of growth of liquor consumers goes on in the same way, then by 2030 more than half the world will be under the influence of alcohol. According to the same study, if the increase in consumption of liquor and population growth data is compared, then out of total amount of liquor consumed in a year the in crease of 70 percent is being recorded . In 1990 from 2099.9 million liters it has increased to 3567.6 million liters in the year 2017.
