Problems of ‘Gau rakshaks’ is being addressed by the growing market of beer companies. Beer companies are feeding cows from the remaining grains that are left after use. Companies use barley and wheat to make beer, and the by product that is left, is been given to local farmers, dairy and to cow shelter homes on minimal price. Craft beer companies like White Rhino and Simba Beers are doing this along with top companies like Ab InBev, and United Breweries.

AB InBev statistics show that more than 7,000 kg of malt per day was fed to cattle’s last year, and a nominal fee was charged for it. The maximum supply is being made from Telangana Brewery. Nearly 1,500 cattle of 10 villages in the surrounding area are receiving fodder from two breweries. The company has partnered with the International Crops Research Institute for Semi Arid Tropics in order to cater cattle’s with fodder in Telangana.
When Will Liquor Be Purchased on Bills ?
People consuming liquor in Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are contributing to the missionary campaign through cow cess on beer and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). In these states, customers have to pay 50 paise per beer bottle and 2 rupees for IMFL on Liquor Shop. At the same time, the amount increases to Rs 5 and 10 rupees respectively in the bar. Cows shelters are arranged from this money.
AB InBev, the world’s largest beer maker, and manufacturers of brands such as Budweiser and Corona, say that they are trying to take the model of providing fodder to cattle at a large level this year. They are also experimenting with processed grains in some other breweries. Generally, the fodder received by the farmers from the beer companies is four to five times cheaper than the open market. This fodder is suitable for feeding animals up to 48 hours. Despite this, the farmers are liking this fodder. The biggest benefit of this to the companies is, it is like a Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative for companies and they also get token money in return.
