Which is the oldest bar in Europe. This is not a puzzle, it is just a question because these days a campaign has been launched to get the world’s oldest and historic status for 1100 years old Sean’s Bar of Ireland. It has to be officially rated the world’s oldest bar status. Although no one knows when liquor came into existence, but we can say that liquor existed as the man came into existence.
From the time the liquor came in to existence, from that time bars also came into existence. Thousands of bars came into existence and were ruined. But the thirst of alcohol lovers did not extinguish and alcoholism continued. Nobody knows when the foundation of the Sean’s bar was laid. It is considered Europe’s oldest pub. It is said that the Sean’s bar was started during Europe’s ‘Dark Era’. Historians and local people here admit that this is the oldest bar. In 2004, it was also certified by Guinness Book of World Records.
Once upon a time this bar situated in Ireland’s capital Dublin, was lively until late at night, its architecture is still as it was 11 hundred years ago, that is, its roofs and walls are made of cane. Horse hair has been used in decoration. According to the researchers on the bars, so far they have not got any other pubs as old as the Sean’s bar.
It is history in itself, one researcher, Donovan, points out that its relationship with the river flowing here is deep. According to him, he setteled here with his family 32 years ago and everything is still there, just like 32 years ago. According to him every person who comes here brings happiness and a story related to bar with him.
Although there are many historic bars in Europe such as The Bingley Arms of Britain, which began in 953 AD. Similarly, The Skirrid Mountain Inn (1110 AD), Old Trips to Jerusalem (1189 AD) and Dublin’s Brazen Head (1198) etc.
All of these are very old and all of them claim that they have been serving alcohol for centuries.
But, the Research of the National Museum of Ireland says that the Sean’s bar is older than the time it is told. According to this research, it started in AD 900. This era was before the rise and fall of the Vikings in Ireland. This was the time when Europe had learned to manufacture whiskey and black beer. The liquor bars of the Emerald islands got fame due to them.
The people of Ireland follow three things in life, music, conversation and work as per their interest, and these three things are clearly seen in Sean’s Bar. There are many pubs in Ireland and the people enjoy their drinks with the same kind of music, jokes, in each of the bars.
The story of the Sean’s Bar also does not differ from them. People come here and get seated on thick, padded chairs, start a series conversation in dull light and enjoy themselves. In this bar there are many memories written on wooden pillars. Some maps are made. Some memorabilia and many poems are written.
But these historic bars are facing crisis. Statistics from the Drinking Industry Group of Ireland show that there has been rapid shut down of bars in the last ten years. One of the reasons is the awareness related to health and the recession period in Ireland. Due to the recession, excise duty on alcohol is very high. People do not have the ability to buy expensive liquor. But despite such a bad situation, Sean’s bar have managed to keep its history intact.
