Stricter Alcohol Rule for Japan Airlines Pilots

Tokyo | After pilot being arrested in drunk condition at the Heathrow airport in London, Japan Airlines has announced on Friday that it will present a new breathlizer (breathing apparatus) on foreign airports. Japan Airlines said in a statement, “The company takes this violation seriously, because security is our main priority and apologizes to the people affected by the behavior of the employee.”

According to the BBC, Katsutoshi Jitsukawa was arrested last month, when a trial found that she was drunk nine times more than the legal limit.

This new step has also been taken because 12 flights of Japan Airlines were delayed due to the drunk condition of the pilots.

A spokesman of the company said that 19 cases have been reported since August 2017, where the pilots of Japan Airlines had failed in the Alcohol Test of the company.

Japan does not set limits on the use of alcohol by pilots, but it is the responsibility of airline companies to determine the amount of alcohol consumption for pilots deployed on duty. The spokesman said that the new system has already been implemented on the domestic airports of Heathrow and Japan. They will start it on Sundays from other airports.
