The U.P government has taken a good initiative to stop the deaths due to illegal liquor. The State Rural Livelihood Mission has taken the responsibility of bailing out the families involved in raw liquor trade. With the help of police and administration, the mission teams are identifying such villages and helping women there with self employment, by constituting self-help groups for women and the elderly, they are being provided financial assistance along with employment training. This campaign has been started in 25 villages of Hardoi.
NP Singh, former Rural Development Commissioner said that livelihood mission has been given the task to stop the sale of illegal liquor in UP. Under this Mission Teams will identify villages with the help of administration and police in the districts where people are engaged in illegal trade of liquor. By establishing a group of women and elderly of the families connected with this business, financial and technical assistance is being given to them for self-employment.
With the help of the mission, these groups are being trained in sewing, making agarbatti, candle, toddy beer, pickle, marmalade, jam along with cultivation and horticulture. Apart from, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, old age, widow and disabled pension scheme, benefits of several schemes including housing, toilets are also being provided.
Rural Development Department efforts are to bring them to mainstream so that they can give good education to their children. It is planned, to start it soon in other districts of the state. For this purpose, women and the elderly of families engaged in illegal liquor business are being motivated for self-employment, by establishing Self Help Group.
