After the hooch tragedy in Barabanki were 24 people died, the government has become more concerned in this regard, But who will raid and take sample from liquor shops, Food Safety Department or Excise Department it is yet to be decided.

In view of this, preparations are being made to bring liquor under the Food Security Act. Under this, like any other substances samples will be taken from liquor shops for checking. Standards of quality of liquor are being fixed, manuals have also been created, preparations are to implement it as soon as possible.

The incidence of death due to poisonous liquor have increased in the last two and a half years. There have been major incidents in Azamgarh, Kushinagar, Saharanpur and Barabanki, in which more than 200 people have died. On the other hand liquor adulteration is continuing unchecked. In order to increase the strength of liquor, the business of mixing dangerous chemicals in liquor is going on openly .
Similar case was reported in Barabanki, but there is no effective mechanism to control such incidents yet. The Excise Department monitors the legal and illegal trade of liquor but there is no system for checking the quality of liquor and its adulteration. The formalities of the inquiry are definitely done after the tragedy.

Under this, preparations have now started to bring liquor under the Food Security and Drug Administration. Under this, like any other food items, liquor samples can be taken from any shop. It will be tested in department lab. If the report is negative, action will be taken against the shopkeeper. After the implementation of this manual, it is expected that due to regular monitoring the sale of adulterated and poisonous liquor will be effectively controlled.
When Will Liquor Be Purchased on Bills ?
According to the rules prepared, many categories have been created according to which the different standards of liquor have been set. Under this, the quantity of substances other than alcohol have also been determined. There will be provision for action against the shopkeeper in case some irregularities are found. ‘Tadi’ and other intoxicants along with liquor will be brought under the purview of Food Security Act. Adulteration in ‘Tadi’ and ‘Bhang’ are common, therefore, there will be provision of regular checks of their samples.
