Liquor consumption causes cancer, Heart attacks,and Liver cirrhosis all of these are well known facts. The point is, does anybody know that the medicines that are available in the market to get rid of addiction, are dangerous in terms of consumption. Medicines given to get rid of drug addiction make the bones of our body hollow. This is claimed by the C.D.R.I scientists.
Scientists of the Central Drug Research Institute of India, Lucknow, when tested the anti addiction drug, it was revealed that the tablet ‘antabuse’ used for getting rid of liquor and cigarette addiction, can weaken or hollow our bones . The CDRI researched on 72 rats for the first time to investigate the side effects of antabuse. They gave these mice the same amount of medicine as is given to people indulged in liquor addiction. Scientists noticed that Thayocarbomate di sulfite drug is damaging the Astio Blast cells of mice. A team of senior scientists from CDRI N. Chattopadhyay, M Mittal, K. Paul, Konika Porwal, Shyamsundar Pal Cheena, Tarun Kumar, Khemraj Baghel, Tara, Smriti Bhadauria, VL Sharma and T.K Barbhuyan conducted this research.
According to this report, after continuously giving medicine as per dosage for about one year, the bones of the rats were hollowed. A CDRI scientist said that if a person is given dosage of 30 mg of this medicine, then the result can be the same. Based on this report, the Delhi-based AIIMS National Drug Dependence Treatment Center (NDDTC) has started clinical trials with the help of WHO.

Now the doctors of AIIMS are giving calcium tablets along with the anti addiction medicine to keep the bones of the patients strong. The doctors are researching that whether supplements given for bones can end the problem of bone weakness. A grant has also been provided to AIIMS from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India for this project.
