Liquor consumers from Bagpat to Shahganj are duped daily. Be it Jaunpur of eastern UP or western UP’s Bagpat, no district is less than the other as far as exploitation of liquor consumers are concerned. Daily liquor consumers are duped in Jaunpur district’s Shahganj. But these liquor consumers can’t say anything because there’s nobody is ready to listen their problems. Neither Police nor the Excise department.
There are some liquor consumers who resist and argue. In most of the cases, the Police seem to be hand in glove with the shopkeepers who sell liquor, and because of this reason, those people who resist have to face the music from the Police. But there are certain people who send Police on the back foot and the liquor shop salesman gives up. Despite all this, this game is being run like a routine job.
Shahganj is one of the biggest town in the Jaunpur district. Apart from Shahganj Municipal Corporation, there’s a Tehsil headquarters. Also, there’s demand to make Shahganj a separate district. There are three licensed English liquor shops in Shahganj. One shop is at roadways, another one at Pavaii Road. But the third shop is at Azamgarh road.
In all these shops, the salesmen charge Rs 5 more for a quarter, Rs 10 for a half bottle of liquor and Rs 10 for a full liquor bottle. This game is going on since quite some time now. But Pavaai road shopkeeper has been kind to the local liquor consumers as he sells liquor at a reasonable rate to them. And that’s the reason why all the local men buy liquor from his shop. People knew it; they are duped in all these three liquor shops. But still they blindly go there. Some people have protested for this extra charge but that creates an issue with the salesman. The salesman calls the Police if the issue becomes big. The Police don’t take side of the liquor consumer. And due to this, the common man becomes a victim of Police. But sometimes influential persons give Police a befitting reply. As the Police disappear, the salesman too gives up and gives liquor to the influential person at reasonable rate. Despite daily issues, liquor consumers are being duped by the shopkeepers.

There are so many complaints of selling liquor at a higher rate than the print rate of the liquor bottle. District administration promises to punish the culprits by setting up inquiry. But nothing happens. Over rating one live example is of UP’s Bagpat’s district Khekra tehsil’s Staul village beer shop. This shop openly sells beer for Rs 150 despite the fact that thee print price is Rs 140. When Cheerrss.com correspondent spoke to the district Excise officer Ram Ujagar and apprised him of the over pricing issue, he assured us that there will be a inquiry set up and if some government liquor shop is found involve in such practices, a fine would be charged.

Liquor consumers are paying more money than the original price of liquor Be it Jaunpur or NOIDA or Bagpat, the news that liquor consumers are paying more money than the original price of liquor, is the same. To protect the consumer benefits, the liquor consumers are always disregarded. Be it District Administration or Excise Department or high government officials, the attitude towards the liquor consumers doesn’t remain the same. That’s the reason why liquor consumers are duped at every nook and corner.
In Shahganj’s Azamgarh road, there’s a pathology near a English liquor shop. Pathalogy’s manager Sacchidanand Shilachi loves to consume liquor in the daily evening. On quite a few occasions, he invites some of his friends to drink along with him. But never ever does Sacchidanand orders Sacchidanand from the nearby liquor shop. He orders liquor from a shop situated at Pavaaii road as this shopkeeper sells liquor at a reasonable rate to the local residents. Sacchidanand says, “Here, there is black marketing going on of even poison. A lot of times we have complained to the Police but no action has been taken so far.” Another Shahganj resident Sanjay Sindhi says, “One should not expect the end of jungleraaj of liquor businessmen. At least it’s not going to happen in Shahganj.”
