Decade ago liquor named Laila of Saraiya distillery in Gorakhpur was popular in the entire eastern region including Azamgarh the city of Kaifi.At that time in Azamgarh district alone, income from this wine was in crores per month. The reason being that this wine was of white color. Along with this it was cheap and its taste was also quite good. Alcohol enthusiasts believed that color is not mixed in white wine, that is why it is less harmful than colored liquor.

This liquor broke all the sales record in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Suddenly it disappeared from the licensed shops. Alcohol enthusiasts searched this liquor a lot but all in vain. In such a situation they selected another brand. They argued that it seems that this liquor was being sold enough, so the company would have reduced the commission to the shop owners. That’s why shop owners are not asking for this liquor. After a decade, this Laila wine has once again appeared at liquor shops in Azamgarh. When this liquor came into the market, it brought smile on the faces of old lovers of this wine and they started buying it . It is a different matter that people were disappointed later. People stopped buying it. When asked, they said now neither its taste is better than before and the quality is also very bad. The return of laila after a decade has failed to allure its lovers as they are saying that its a duplicate one.

Raja Santosh Sahu, chief liquor businessman of Azamgarh district, says they will place the order for liquor that sells more and is in demand. He says that he has been in this profession for a long time. At present, he has more than three dozen country liquor stores. He had seen the old phase of Laila and as well as seeing the present one . They did not stop selling Laila in the district. It was the company which hindered the supply for decade in the district so what they would have soldHe says that he himself is getting complains that laila that has appeared in the market now is duplicate. It is neither good in taste nor has the same pungency as before. Now the customer are rejecting it, so they will surely stop selling it. In such a situation allegations will be again levelled against the traders for stopping its sale.
