Bollywood star Aamir Khan has discussed the issue of liquorl and its bad affects in the latest issue of his TV show Satyamev Jayate, in which famous lyricist Javed Akhtar told that how he was addicted to liquor for almost 27 years of his life.
In the audience present at the show, the age of almost all people was below thirty. Some felt that it is cool to drink to please the boss, and some thought that drinking as the sign of special status. But the purpose of the show was to save the lives of people destroyed due to addiction.
Famous song and screenwriter Javed Akhtar admitted on the show that there was a time in his life when he was a victim of liquor addiction. He told that after graduation, he went to Mumbai at the age of 19 and started drinking with friends.
Javed Akhtar was addicted to liquor for 27 years of his life, but once he gave up, till now 21 years have passed and he has not touched it. Javed Akhtar explains, “last 11-12 years were like, when he used to drink a bottle every night.”

According to Javed Akhtar, firstly he thought liquor is like glamour. “People think that if they drink, then it seems that they have grown up and have become adults.” But he insisted that there is no glamour in liquor. Javed Akhtar said, “I have not done any mistake without drinking.”
In the show many people who suffered due to liquor addiction shared their experiences, including journalist Vijay Sinha. He told, when he did big stories he used to to drink more. Once his father wrote a letter to him and said, “Its a curse to have a son like you .” His father died a few days later. and from that day his life changed.
In the show, due to liquor addiction, issues such as violence, domestic violence and problem due to drunk driving were raised. In the show, Changal village in Punjab was also introduced to the people were people of the village came forward to close the liquor shop in their village.
Liquor addiction is a common problem in India like many other countries of the world. Addiction often start with fun, but many times quickly turn into addiction. It was emphasized in the show that if there is will, then we can overcome this addiction.
