In U.P, news of continuous increase in illegal raw liquor business is increasing day by day. Not only that, modern methods have now been adopted for the marketing of raw liquor. Just as the big companies are doing online business to deliver their product to their customers, in the same way, people running illegal breweries of raw liquor are taking orders on their phones, and are providing liquor to their customers on the stated location. Thousands of illegal raw liquor breweries are still operating in Vantangia villages of the state.

Recently, UP Government in order to improve the living standards of people living in the Vantangia villages, has given them revenue village status and equipped them with government facilities. Just like permanent availability of the forest, river, nallahs and sugarcane fields around Vantangiya settlements, the illegal raw liquor breweries in these villages are constantly growing like a cottage industry. In the Tinkoniya range of Gorakhpur Forest Division, a large amount of illegal liquor is being traded in Rajhi Vantangia. Sources reveal that a bottle of illegal raw liquor is available in just 40 rupees, and this liquor sometimes becomes poisonous, which results in loss of lives.

Sources claim that the role of the police and excise department in this illegal business is questionable. In the areas where the complaint of illegal raw liquor breweries is higher at the administrative level, the police and the excise department officials in connivance, dismantle some breweries and publish their photographs in the newspapers. The law made against illegal liquor is such that on one side the trader goes to jail under ‘Excise Act 60’ and he is released on bail soon. A businessman said that we give police and excise department personel 1500 to 2000 rupees per breweries monthwise. Even if men go to jail, their business is not closed. Women in their houses take care of thier business.
